The ADELAIDE Film Festival selects Qing Xie’s feature MOLESTIA for HIVE LAB

October 15th, 2015

The ADELAIDE Film Festival has selected award-winning Australian-Chinese director, QING XIE’s debut narrative feature project MOLESTIA, for its intensive, cross-disciplinary HIVE LAB.

Selection sees Qing spend three immersive days working on her feature film script with the support of esteemed Australian writers, directors and producers, such as ROLF de HEER, in an environment that nurtures innovative practice, and creative audacity.

“I know about extraordinary odds, and how to overcome apparitions of impossibility, but this boost from the Adelaide Film Festival, will ensure my feature flies higher with the cross-pollination that drives success,” says QING XIE.

Qing Xie’s work has been recognised by some of the most influential directors of our time.  She was mentored by Palme d’Or winner APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL, after being selected by acclaimed auteur HOU HSIAO-HSIEN for the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Academy. With the support of the Adelaide Film Festival in 2011, Qing was introduced to ROLF de HEER: an encounter which has since progressed into ongoing script development support for MOLESTIA. Her graduating film RED WATER RED was praised by Cannes Film Festival Camera d’Or jury president BONG JOON-HO as “a disturbing beauty” after travelling across Europe, the USA, Oceania & Asia, screening at over 30 festivals internationally, and winning multiple awards.

The HIVE LAB runs 18-21 October, during the Adelaide Film Festival, 16 – 25 October, 2015.

Acclaimed auteur HOU HSIAO-HSIEN selects Qing Xie for 47th GOLDEN HORSE Film Festival Academy

October 27th, 2010

Melbourne-based director QING XIE has been chosen by acclaimed auteur HOU HSIAO-HSIEN for the 47th TAIPEI GOLDEN HORSE Film Festival  Film Academy.

Selection to the Academy will see Qing Xie mentored by celebrated directors such as APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL, ANG LEE and TSAI MING-LIANG, as well as participate in 3 weeks of intensive master classes, meetings with global industry heavy-weights, and hands-on production and post training with a select group of emerging pan-Asian film talent.

“Having my work seen and supported in this way by HOU HSIAO-HSIEN, and the Academy he leads, is already a rare honour, but in combination with mentoring by 2010 Palme d’Or winner APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL, this truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which I sincerely and passionately cherish” says director QING XIE.

Qing Xie is the first Australian filmmaker to be selected to the Academy, and the only one to be invited this year from outside of Asia. He has won best film or best director awards at Venice, Berlin, Hawaii and Nantes Three Continents international film festivals, and is a six-time nominee for the Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm.
